Tiny Home Village
We are so excited to see the progress in our efforts to build a tiny community in Gary. Thanks to Sanford Garner for assisting us in this project by providing drawings of the future homes. Construction should begin in the Spring of 2019.
We could not do this without the support of the city of Gary, Indiana.
There is a grassroots movement happening in Gary Indiana and I want to tell you Families Anchored in Total Harmony (FAITH) CDC in partnership with Progressive Community Church are doing to support this grassroots movement.
Families Anchored In Total Harmony (F.A.I.T.H) Community Development Corporation is a private, not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to provide assistance and support using health and education as a platform in local communities in Northwest Indiana. Since its founding, more than 1,000 families have benefited. We ascribe to a "teach them to fish" philosophy and once we do people can help themselves. God is accomplishing great things in the Emerson neighborhood. Please let us share what is happening in our neighborhood.
One of our efforts is the building of the tiny home's community in Gary. Thanks to one of our partners Sanford Garner, Founding Partner/President at RG Collaborative, LLC for assisting us in this project by providing drawings of the future homes for veterans, elderly, Gary school teachers and the homeless. Construction will begin in the spring of 2019.
We have formalized our relationship with Steel City Academy. On a weekly basis, students will be trained in all aspects of urban farming by Farm Manager Freida Graves. We have begun to engage other learning institutes in Northwest Indiana for additional partnerships.
Professor Mindy Appold, Purdue University and the students of the Architecture and Landscape Department – provided many amazing ideas for our Apiary & Pollinator Garden. We look forward to reviewing all 17 drawings and choosing the ideas we want to implement in our garden. It is our hopes that many of the drawings will be used for pocket parks throughout Gary.
We are so excited to be partnering with Triple B Tilapia to establish Faith Fish Farms. Triple B will help construct and teach Faith Farms to grow perch in an abandoned building in the Emerson District. We hope to create commerce and jobs in Gary.
We are thankful to have our chickens producing fresh organic eggs. We have big dreams for these ladies. By producing healthy protein we plan on making this food desert bloom. Watch for our future expansion in raising fowl in Gary.
Our Pollinator Garden and Apiary are more than a dream. Thanks to the City of Gary, Purdue University, and the hard work of our church family. We have four hives tucked away for the winter and hope to expand in the spring. Our goal is to use the bees to pollinate our farm, teach about the vital part bees’ play in our ecosystem and build a business around the sale of bee products. Yes, that will include honey!!
As part of our educational and growing programs, we are teaching nutrition to fight diabetes, high blood pressure and other ills that can be counteracted through exercise and healthy eating. Our juice bar will provide healthy nutritious drinks derived from the produce of our farms and orchards.
What can you do to help us? We need workers, building materials, the land cleared and donations to support our efforts. We ascribe to the principal “teach them to fish" and people can help themselves. God is accomplishing great things in the Emerson neighborhood of Gary Indiana. Come and see for yourself. Let us meet with you and your team to share our dreams and visions. Our track record is good and we are looking for partners to support our efforts.
